In this article, I will teach you a quick way to make lentil kofta at home.
It may take several steps, but it's not too hard to do. Stay focused, and let's get right into it.
Ingredients Needed
Red lentil, onion, potato, olive oil (cooking oil), carrot, garlic, fresh coriander, parsley, cumin, coriander (powder), salt, red chili flakes, black pepper, yogurt (sour cream), mayonnaise, lemon juice, red chili powder, white vinegar.
Recipe Instructions
Bring 1 cup of red lentils, wash them very well, then soak them in 2 cups of water. Set aside for 30 minutes.
Wash 1 medium-sized onion, 1 medium-sized potato, and 1 carrot. After washing, grate them one by one and set them aside.
On low heat, place a frying pan and add 2 teaspoons of olive oil (or cooking oil). Add the grated ingredients and fry for 10 minutes. After that, pour them into a bowl and set them aside to cool.
Strain the water from the lentils and put the soaked lentils in a food processor (or blender). Wash some fresh coriander and parsley, then add them to the lentils along with 4 peeled garlic cloves. Blend everything well and add it to the bowl of fried vegetables.
Now, add:
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of red chili flakes
- ½ teaspoon of black pepper
Mix all the ingredients very well with your hands (make sure your hands are clean, or you can wear gloves). Keep in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Preparing the Sauces
White Sauce
In a bowl, add:
- ½ cup of sour cream (yogurt)
- ½ cup of mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon of minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon of black pepper
- Some salt
Mix well and place it in the refrigerator until serving time.
Red Sauce
In a clean bowl, mix:
- 2 teaspoons of red chili powder
- 2 teaspoons of red chili flakes
- ¼ cup of white vinegar
- Some salt
Stir well and set aside until serving time.
Cooking the Kofta
With wet hands, shape your kofta as you like long and flat or round and flat.
On medium heat, place a frying pan and add 4 teaspoons of cooking oil or olive oil. Let it heat, then add the kofta. Fry well on both sides until golden brown, then place them on kitchen tissues to absorb any excess oil.
Serving
Place your koftas on a plate and serve with the sauces in small bowls on the side. Enjoy this delicious dish perfect for vegetarians!
